Careers
The world of Pirates of the Burning Sea leave many options to the enterprising player. Currently four career paths are available to choose from: Pirate, Naval Officer, Freetrader and Privateer. No matter what you choose you will always be the commander of a ship, your ship to be exact. But not every path has every ship, so depending what you choose also sets the ships available for you to command.
Your career will determine what abilities and features get as a captain. You will receive one point for your character's career on every other level gained. These points can be spent in numerous ways depending on which career the player has chosen. Once you have selected your career at the start of the game.. There is no going back!
There are a total of 45 skills for each Career. The skill trees are composed of 9 skill chains, each 5 skills in depth. A player will be able to reach the end of a single skill chain by Rank 15, and is then considered somewhat equal to a Rank 50 in that skill chain.
Pirates
Ah the life a pirate, to have no formal government or law to answer to. The sea is your mistress and you set sails as you like, take what you like. Being a pirate means you have a small truce with other pirates that you will not prey upon each other for there are bigger fish at which need dealing. Pirate held ports are to be available to all pirates, no more and no less.
When you choose the career path of piracy you have access to ships like, sloops, schooners, and other small sail vessels. But thats not to say you can't have a larger ship, you just have commandeer said vessel. Taking a ship in this way does not come without its perils. If you don't know how to man that ship then you will never make it out alive. Learn over time and any ship can be yours, only a pirate may take a defeated vessel this way.
Naval Officers
The career choice, Naval Officer, is that of a man who can be dedicated to his nation. Expand her borders and bring her country wealth through means of conquest. The Naval Officers are in command of some of the most destructive and powerful ships. Heavily armored and stocked to the gills with weapons of war/necessaries for survival the Naval Officer should be someone who can be prepared to take orders from highers and delegate the proficiently to their crew. If you show your mettle in battle then you will be award even larger, more powerful vessels.
Though problems with being in the Navy do persist, being governed by a nation, in which money can be a problem in having the most advanced ships at your disposal. But this is not to say that the Navy can't command the seas for a squadron of naval ships can be most devastating at the helm of a true commander. This is where the power of Naval Officer can be found.
Freetrader
Smugglers, traders, and explorers are all callings of an Adventurer. Money is the name of their game and by any means necessary. Many options are available to the enterprising Freetrader, whether you take what you want or do things legit. You can find freetraders running goods to needy ports/towns through player-enforced blockades, thus exploiting weakness in the economics of society. Their shortage of goods and need equal your large supply of overly priced services. Profit smells good in the morning! Or explore the new world for lost treasures around the caribbean! Do I smell gold!?..
The adventuring Freetrader will discover that they have quite an array of ships at their fingers. They have specified trade vessels that have more cargo room than weapons. Then there is the combination of the two which provide great storage but an ability to defend and fight when needed. As always the freetrader will have the ability to select the smaller, quicker vessels that provide quick and stealthy escapes to their hidden coves. Being an freetrader doesn't go without its options in both money and ships.
Privateer
With a letter of Marque of your nation at your disposal you are charged with destroying enemies of the Crown. Whenever and where-ever you may come across them. A legitemit pirate so to say, with a pinch of Naval Officer. Other nations will see you as a bloody terror, a criminal, a pirate.. But to your nation, you're nothing less then a courageous hero! You do those dirty jobs, and you reep the rewards!
You will see that you have a great amount of strong ships at your disposal, just like the Naval Officer. And you don't have to worry about how rich your nation is to get your ship, however you do have to worry about how rich you are! |
